ONIPA means ‘human’ in Akan, the ancient language of the Ashanti people of Ghana. It’s a message of connection through collaboration: from Ghana to London, our ancestors to our children, Onipa brings energy, groove, electronics, afrofuturism, dance and fire!

Med rødder i forskellige musikkulturer har de skabt en fusion af dansable urbane grooves, svimlende elektronik, afrofuturisme og ustoppelig energi, der tager dig med på en rejse fra Ghana til London, hvor gruppen har base.
Onipa er vokset ud af samarbejdet mellem de mangeårige venner KOG (Kweku of Ghana/KOG og the Zongo Brigade) og Tom Excell, som er guitarist og sangskriver i det anerkendte soul/afrobeat-band Nubiyan Twist, der i øvrigt gav fremragende koncert på ALICE sidste år. Live er Onipa en kvartet, der udover KOG på vokal, balafon og percussion og Excell på guitar, percussion og elektronik, består af Dwayne Kilvington (Wonky Logic) på synths og MPC, og Finn Booth (Nubiyan Twist) på trommer.
I marts 2020 udgav Onipa debutalbummet ‘We No Be Machine' (Strut Records, 2020), som er en svært dansabel fusion af dybe afrogrooves, elektroniske understrømme, afrofuturisme og vild energi, og samtidig en fejring af de musikalske og kulturelle møder, som gruppen skaber.
