Mones’ novel follows Thomas Greene, a classically trained pianist who is recruited from the segregated South by Chinese scouts. In Shanghai, Greene finds wealth and respect—until war explodes around him. Night in Shanghai brings to life not only the Shanghai ghettoes, but also China’s forgotten Jewish Resettlement Plan.
