Live from the LOFT

Piano as keyboard instrument, as harp or as percussion. Driven by improvisational curiosity, the two pianists show their virtuosity: unheard sounds, lightning-fast runs, harmonic echoes here and there. The limits of pianistic expression are put to the test; shaped, stretched and finally broken with energetic manner.

The concert will be the meeting of two pianists from two generations: teacher and student.

Paulo Álvares (Gürzenich Orchestra, Ensemble MusikFabrik, among others) was very present at the LOFT, especially in the 1990s, and won 1st prize in the Musik kreativ competition in 1991 with a recording from the LOFT (out of more than 1,200 entries, 2nd prize was won at the time by Frank Gratkowski, also with a recording from the LOFT).

Darius Heid was last heard at the LOFT with Etienne Nillesen and Victor Fox and one can be curious with which projects the young pianist/composer will appear soon.
