About the Performers
Maria DiDonato (Vocals) earned her B.M. in Music Education with a minor in Theater and her M.M. in Vocal Performance from Cleveland State University. She has been studying voice since the age of 14, where she started under Benjamin Czarnota at Baldwin Wallace. Maria continued to study voice at Cleveland State University under Eileen Moore. Maria can be seen performing in musicals, operas, concerts, and solo gigs throughout Northeast Ohio. She can also be spotted behind the keyboard at Playhouse Square, where she offers musical direction for a variety of different stage productions. Maria is blessed to be the manager of Hip to That and couldn’t ask for a more talented group of musicians to play with.
Tim Miller (Drums) is a graduate of Cleveland State University, the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, and of the Los Angeles College of Music. He has been playing drums for over 20 years and teaching for over five. He performed for the Philadelphia band Modern Bliss, performing in hundreds of weddings, clubs, and private parties up and down the east coast and in Ohio and Canada. In 2015, Tim relocated to Cleveland to continue his studies at Cleveland State University. Tim is well versed in jazz, funk, rock, Afro-Cuban and Brazilian drumming.
Joseph Rangel (Guitar) has been playing guitar since 2001 and was originally trained by his father, Rey Rangel, in classical guitar. In 2005 he began to study jazz, doing summer workshops at the Lakeland Jazz Summer camp. He then studied at Tri-C Metro for jazz guitar performance with a minor in piano, studying under Cleveland greats such as Joe Hunter, Steve Enos, Ernie Krivda, and Dave Sterner. Joseph then transferred to Cleveland State University where he studied for two years under the tutelage of Cleveland guitarist Bob Fraser and graduated with honors Summa Cum Laude in 2016 with a Bachelor of Music; emphasis in jazz guitar performance.
Kevin Thompson (Bass) is originally from Washington D.C. and earned his Bachelor of Music from Ithaca College in New York. He currently studies double bass at the Cleveland Institute of Music, where he is working on his professional studies diploma. Kevin is a freelance artist who performs in venues all over Ohio. He is a very versatile performer and can play a variety of styles including jazz, classical, pop, rock, and metal.
