West Village Word is a monthly curation by poet and jazz journalist John Pietaro at the legendary Cafe Bohemia NYC. The series features integrated poetry and music conjuring downtown's creative past and exploring the spoken word sounds of today. JazzPoetry, Neo-Beat and Post-Punk verse SPOKEN HERE!

Puma Perl is a poet and writer, with five solo collections in print. The most recent is Birthdays Before and After (Beyond Baroque Books, 2019.) She is the producer/creator of Puma’s Pandemonium, which brings spoken word together with rock and roll. Her band, Puma Perl and Friends, is a group of musicians who are truly friends and who paint musical pictures behind the words. Joff Wilson, guitarist, Walter Steding, violinist, and Danny Ray, saxophonist, began performing regularly together in 2012 and are the heartbeat of the band. Over the last few years the rhythm section of Joe Sztabnik on bass and Dave Donen on drums added a cohesive backbeat. The band has been known to rehearse once. As Danny Ray once put it, “We speak in tongues.”...
