Holmes began crafting his talent for music at an early age. Debuting as a singer and later on musician at 9 years old with his mother's group, it was then that Holmes took a liking to instruments such as the drums, keyboard, and trombone, and also the spotlight.

As the years progressed Jermaine's talent for singing and performing became public knowledge as he would continue to perfect his craft and go on to participate in local school talent shows. - The Campbell School in New Jersey being one of many stages he has graced as an up and coming singer and performer.

Being molded as a serious artist by older relatives who played in bands with popular music acts such as TLC, Tony! Toni! Tone! And Janet Jackson helped groom Holmes into becoming a more crafted performer. It was also under the influence and teachings of relative Stephen T. Bellamy that Jermaine Holmes was sculpted into being a better audio engineer, vocalist, and keyboard player.

In recent years Jermaine Holmes has become an active member of the group The Vanguard with popular R&B/Soul artist D'Angelo as the group's front man. Introduced to singer D'Angelo by a relative who was once a part of the group ‘The Soul Disciples' and after a very successful audition, Holmes has been a member of The Vanguard since 2012. The Vanguard toured successfully worldwide with little media promotion - success stemming predominantly from the fan base.

With the success of D'Angelo's 2014's "Black Messiah" album. The Vanguard is now celebrating the album's one year anniversary. Also accompanied by a successful comeback tour titled "The Second Coming" with play dates ranging from cities such as New York, all the way to The Netherlands. Jermaine Holmes can proudly say he is a part of the now three time Grammy nominated group.
