The venue offers an authentic cultural music spirit of a different time period. Step in and feel Jazz performances done with an authentic jazz vibe of yesteryear. Imagine retreating back to a different time and spend an evening in a very intimate, private way. Experience the enjoyment of the Jazz Concert, while a traditional Southern Fish Fry Buffet offering, to delight any palette is cooked on site.
Before the evening ends if you feel that you would like to show off your talents by performing your special artistic self, join in on the OPEN MIC. The musicians will play with you or you can play for them. Open Participation is expected at the end of the night from the audience, but if you’re shy just sit back and enjoy the show.
An Upright Grand Piano from the early 19th c., used in creating the Classic Jazz tunes still plays there today. The Charles M. Stieff Co., piano has its own American history. Referred to as the poor mans Steinway, actually stands with Babygrands of the same era. Of course like Brownstone houses, Stieff pianos are no longer created,just persevered
Take note in the 1930 perhaps even earlier, one didn't always go to just Harlem for ta great Jazz scene, Brooklyn had one too. Bedford Stuyvesant had on of the largest Jazz neighborhood around. Bed Stuy held many venues that housed jazz greats like Thelonius Monk, Randy Weston, Miles Davis, Max Roach, Hank Mobley and others. Brooklyn's Paramount Theatre among others held major Jazz Concerts. All eventually changed, and jazz club fizzled out in favor of a different generation of music. Yes, even Uptown and Midtown changed as well.
Debbie McClain, owner of Sankofa Aban Bed and Breakfast has started to revive the local community scene of the past. Including jazz from the past when she met up with her partner Eric Lemons. Together they started piecing artists to be remembered and upcoming jazz artists, instead of just band
