About

Harold Danko is a proverbial living legend.

He began piano lessons at age 5 and within ten years had chosen jazz for a career, joining Woody Herman’s Thundering Herd after an Army stint. He went on to perform and record with Chet Baker, James Moody, Gerry Mulligan, Lee Konitz and the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Orchestra. Pianist, composer and educator, he has produced over 20 albums on the SteepleChase label as leader. He is now Professor Emeritus of Jazz Studies & Contemporary Media at Eastman School of Music.

Harold is a thoughtful explorer who illuminated his compositional and improvisational process in over 30 essays for Keyboard Magazine. He continues to evolve that process "to master the many recipes of rhythm, melody, and harmony that go into composing and improvising."...
