Eric Nachtrab began working as a professional bassist in the early 90's while in school at Bowling Green State University in Ohio. During this time Eric worked regularly with the late Eddie Abrams at Rusty's Jazz cafe in Toledo. He moved to Texas to attend UNT in 1994 and became an active member of the rich and varied Dallas/Ft Worth music scene for several years. Eric then moved to Cincinnati Ohio and again established himself as an in demand sideman working regularly with the Rob Algeyer trio and many others.
A break from music led Eric to Portland Oregon where he raced bicycles and worked as a bike mechanic for 10 years. Eric also started a family during this time. The birth of his second child in 2010 brought him back to music. Within a few months of returning to the bass Eric met David Haverkampf and Bill Hardy, two very creative musicians that shared his interest in free improvisation. Together they formed the Stochastic Mettle Union Local #35. During this time Eric also met the great drummer Scott Cutshall who's playing and commitment to musical honesty was a profound inspiration. This time spent playing with Dave, Bill, and Scott was crucial to the rediscovery of the joy of creative improvised music.
In 2013 Eric and his family moved to Ann Arbor Michigan. Eric is now an in demand Bassist in the Detroit area. He is a member of the Galen Bundy trio, the Liz Smith trio, and works regularly with the Hughes/Smith Quintet, Ramona Collins, Beth Stalker and many more.
