About

The fiery French Romantic Era composer Hector Berlioz was writing music about witches, guillotines and bizarre drug-induced hallucinations more than 150 years before rockers like Ozzy Osbourne and Alice Cooper explored similar topics. Now the National Symphony Orchestra performs Berlioz's 1830 masterpiece, Symphonie fantastique, a phantasmagorical adventure written to impress an Irish actress who would later become his wife. Led by conductor Edward Gardner, the orchestra also welcomes renowned French violinist Renaud Capuçon, who'll tackle Sibelius' notoriously challenging Concerto for Violin at the Kennedy Center Concert Hall.
