About
Vocalist, musician, arranger and composer Paul Jost brings his smoky lyrical scat and heartfelt interpretations and his select musicians to Horace Mann. All About Jazz magazine captured the appeal of the Quartet in a review: They glide "...effortlessly from swing to bebop…Jost's boppish scatting bristles with the unmistakable energy of in-the-moment improvisation. Jost is an all-rounder; his gravely soul delivery can sound like a cross between singers Otis Redding and Pino Daniele, and he imbues singer John Sebastian's 'Daydream' with the Delta blues." Musicologist Raul da Gama has written of Paul, "...in his pristine articulation, Mr Jost dips into a colour palette that is not only most unusual, but also vast and encompassing of an impossibly wide register...he has been spoken of as a worthy successor, among male vocalists, to the legendary Mark Murphy." Paul's solo CD Breaking Through (Dot Time Records) continues to receive raves worldwide. And his new CD with the Quartet will be released in March of this year. Gloria Krolak wrote, "He swings through tunes with an innovative scat language all his own and enhances tunes with percussive tricks drawn from his cuffs or some other magical place. "...
