About

The first ever winner of the “BBC Young Musician - Jazz” Award in 2014 and the 2016 British Jazz Award “Rising Star”, saxophonist, composer, arranger and producer Alexander Bone has already established a name for himself as a bold and impressive talent. After attending the prestigious Chethams School of Music from the age of 13, he is now in his final year of study at the Royal Academy of Music. However even while still a student, he has performed twice as a soloist on the BBC Proms, the first time in 2015 where he played his own orchestral arrangements of “Ain’t Nobody” & “Pure Imagination” broadcast live to millions of viewers on BBC Two. Since then, Alexander was part of the BBC Young Musician 40th Anniversary celebrations at Royal Albert Hall, has worked with some of the biggest names in jazz, pop and electronic music including Nile Rodgers, Rudimental, Gary Barlow, Liane Carroll and Gwilym Simcock and led his own bands appearing at venues and Festivals including London Jazz, Manchester Jazz and Ronnie Scott’s. Along with his considerable virtuosity on his instrument, his playing demonstrates an obvious melodic gift traversing a variety of genres, reflecting a mastery of both dynamics and phrasing that stands out from the crowd. For this 606 performance Alexander will be joined by one of the UK’s most acclaimed pianists, Tom Cawley (Curios, Acoustic Ladyland), along with fellow Royal Academy contemporaries, bassist Will Sach and drummer Luke Tomlinson. Their set will be a selection of their “favourite jazz tunes across the eras – a real mix from older, swinging standards right through to current and contemporary music”, with a few of Alexander’s originals as a bonus. Highly recommended....
