About

New York City-based Latvian singer, composer and arranger Arta Jēkabsone is recognized by her velvety tone. Arta engages listeners with emotional and honest, adventurous and joyful expression of music. Arta was awarded the 1st prize at Montreux Shure Jazz Voice Competition in Switzerland (2016) and 2nd prize at Mid- Atlantic Jazz Voice competition (2017).

Arta Jēkabsone is excited to present her debut album “Light”, that was released at the end of 2017. “Light” holds the vibration of light as a feeling and each person’s inner light. It is Arta’s thought process and inspiration that has been captured together with young, talented and in the NYC jazz scene actively working musicians - Theo Walentiny (piano), Nick Dunston (bass), Lucas Kadish (guitar), Connor Parks (drums). The main message is “light” as the means of expression in the music and in the nature that is very dear to Arta. Also “light” is used as a metaphor for human beings and their energy, that they share with the world; dreams; and also, homesickness. The purpose of this music is to find the light within in each other while being a part of this musical journey. To live in a moment, while listening to the lightness and the stories that the musicians are creating and sharing with each other. In this concert, the audience will hear original works of Arta Jēkabsone and Nick Dunston. Join Arta Jēkabsone Quintet and share the light together!...
