We close our second year of @exuberance salons with four jazz masters—each alone a clinic in how this music is spoken.
You know David Wong from his appearance here with Willie Jones III and Jeb Patton. Graceful, reliably swinging, great soloist, impeccable intonation. Stints with Eric Reed, Roy Haynes, the Heath Brothers, Aaron Diehl and others. He hits Dizzy’s on May 31 for a 4-night stand with the incomparable Benny Green. David is on the jazz faculty at Temple University and the Stanford Jazz Workshop.
For the last 13 years, Dan Nimmer has brilliantly held down the piano chair of the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra. He has performed and or recorded with Jimmy Cobb, Norah Jones, Willie Nelson, Paul Simon, George Benson, Houston Person, Eric Clapton, Jon Faddis, Benny Golson, Brian Lynch, Lewis Nash, and Peter Washington among others....

The magnificent Kenny Washington is an unqualified master of bebop drumming and a scholar of this music. His discography chronicles a 40-year career with Lee Konitz, Betty Carter, Johnny Griffen, Kenny Burrell, Tommy Flanagan, Cedar Walton, Ahmad Jamal and many others. For the last 20 years he has propelled the Bill Charlap Trio. He joins David Wong for the aforementioned Benny Green sets at Dizzy’s.
Fronting this peerless trio is Los Angeles guitarist Graham Dechter. A member of the Clayton-Hamilton Orchestra since he was 19, Dechter brings swing-suffused virtuosity to every musical moment. Wes Montgomery, Barney Kessel, Grant Green and Herb Ellis are his heroes. He has two albums as leader with mentors Jeff Hamilton, John Clayton, and Tamir Hendelman: Right On Time and Takin’ It There. What does he sound like? Many YouTube videos.
Those allergic to swing should stay away. @exuberance exists for these artists. Expect every seat here to be occupied.
