National Youth Jazz Orchestra With Guest Soloist Yazz Ahmed at Lichfield Festival
The 23-strong National Youth Jazz Orchestra (NYJO) will take to the stage under the direction of MD Mark Armstrong to bring you the best of British big band jazz.
NYJO is a glittering showcase for the UK’s finest young professional jazz musicians, combining a hard-swinging rhythm section and a raft of hugely talented soloists. Performing around 40 concerts a year both nationally and internationally, NYJO has helped launch the careers of many of the country’s most renowned jazz musicians including Guy Barker, Amy Winehouse, Mark Nightingale and Laura Jurd.
We are thrilled to be performing at Lichfield Festival with esteemed trumpeter Yazz Ahmed, to bring you a programme that celebrates women in jazz; from the songs of Ella Fitzgerald and the 1940s trombone stylings of Melba Liston and composer and pianist Mary-Lou Williams, to contemporary classics by band leader Maria Schneider. Yazz will also be premiering her brand new work written especially for NYJO, generously supported by PRS Foundation’s The Open Fund....
