Glenn Zaleski Trio at Jazz Standard
Hailed by The New York Times as “an excellent young pianist notable for both his harmonic insight and his rhythmic composure,” Massachusetts native Glenn Zaleski has made a New York name for himself playing with the likes of Ravi Coltrane, Lage Lund, and Ari Hoenig. Glenn has captivated audiences in performance with his own trio; with the collectives Stranahan/Zaleski/Rosato, and the Melissa Aldana / Glenn Zaleski Sextet, and as a key sideman in groups led by violinist Tomoko Omura, and bassist/vocalist Katie Thiroux. My Ideal, the pianist’s debut recording as a leader, was released on Sunnyside in March 2015 and praised by Downbeat as “sublime” and by Jazz Times as “an engaging set by a talent worth watching.” Tonight, the spotlight is on the release of Glenn Zaleski’s second Sunnyside CD, Fellowship. It features bassist Dezron Douglas and drummer Craig Weinrib on a blend of original tunes and a few insightfully arranged standards, such as John Coltrane’s “Central Park West.” Filling in for Dezron Douglas will be legendary bassist Rufus Reid, in whose group Glenn fills the piano chair.
