Ghosts Of The Holy Ghost Spermic Brotherhood (NYC):
The unique, NYC sound-explorational trio : Ghosts Of The Holy Ghost Spermic Brotherhood (featuring Michael Evans on amplified snare drum, objects and electronics, David Grollman on snare drum, objects and balloons and Andy Haas on reeds and electronics) has been together for about 5 years now, having only recorded one self titled cd on Resonantmusic. "Deep down there's a feeling that somewhere under this arbitrary haze of shapeless racket roam mischievous spirits that are secretly orchestrating all this, and that's what keeps me engaged. Ghosts of the Holy Ghost lurking about, you might say" - S. Victor Aaron, Something Else! Reviews
"God Almighty, jazz now has it's own Metal Machine Music." - Midwest Record reviews
"Each of the dozen pieces creates another strange and wonderful world. All you have to do is play this disc and you will be transformed into a happy alien in a comfortable place." - Bruce Lee Gallanter, DMG
Eli Litwin/Julius Masri/Christian Moehring (Philadelphia):
Eli Litwin is a Philadelphia-based musician and educator. Over the past 15 years he has played drums in a variety of musical projects whose wide range of styles have included extreme metal, free jazz, progressive rock, and avant-garde classical composition. These bands have released internationally distributed albums and toured North America and Europe. In 2011, the influential heavy metal label Metal Blade Records released a solo project of Litwin's called Intensus. The self-titled debut album was a whirlwind of freely improvised extreme metal featuring Litwin on drums, guitar and bass, along with guest vocalists from such notable metal acts as Between the Buried and Me, A Life Once Lost, and East of the Wall. The album earned Litwin a feature in the Philadelphia Citypaper, along with favorable reviews within the metal blog community. In addition to his performing, touring and recording career, for the past 10 years, Litwin has been teaching drum, guitar, and piano lessons as well as directing youth-based rock band ensembles throughout the greater Philadelphia area. He is currently in his second year teaching K-8 General Music in a Philadelphia public school.
Julius Masri is a multi instrumentalist based in Philadelphia, and is a performer/ composer for the city's modern dance community at large. Born in Tripoli, Lebanon, he moved to the States in 1990, and picked up drumming a year later. He studied with famed Philadelphia instructors Carl Mottola and Elaine Hoffman Watts, and, as an undergrad at Bard College, AACM's Thurman Barker, Richard Teitelbaum, and Joan Tower. As a drummer, Julius performs in such bands as hasidic punk group Electric Simcha, psychotic Ragtime duo Mahogany Stompers, Metal Duo Night Raids, and Van Sutra with guitarist George Draguns, (Don Caballero). He also performs improvisational music with noted musicians such as saxophonist Keir Neuringer, bassists Henry Grimes and Jamaaledeen Tacuma, Sun Ra Arkestra members Dave Hotep, Heru Shabaka-Ra, and Michael Watson. On circuit modified keyboards, Julius performs in duos such as Superlith, with Trombonist Dan Blacksberg (Anthony Braxton Quartet), and electronic music phenom Joo Won Park. Julius has also composed and performed music for many Philadelphia based choreographers, and is currently working with Graffito Works dance collective.
Christian Moehring is a drummer, composer and teacher who currently lives in Philadelphia, PA. He works heavily with tonal dissonance and numeric phrasing/patterns that create sonic phenomena, while maintaining a free associative approach. Although classically trained, he is a veteran of the extreme metal universe. Moehring renounces any rational construct, and allows his drumming to be open to unpredictable forces, using these principles as an approach to most of his work. He has studied with Howard Curtis and Doug Richards. A founding member of many original projects including Epoch Trio and Nehema, Moehring is currently with Anabiosis and Dahb.
