Charles Lloyd has always danced to a different, and dazzling, drummer. From his childhood adventures with best friend, trumpeter Booker Little in Memphis, to Bartok studies at USC, to invaluable first gigs with Chico Hamilton and Cannonball, Charles was collecting influences and finally exploded inn 1966 with his iconic quartet album Forest Flower – with fresh-faced Keith Jarrett and Jack DeJohnette on board. This blasted Lloyd into the pop world with sales upwards of a million copies, and he toured the world’s most influential rock venues until he suddenly disappeared into the forests of Big Sur for a decade. Forty years of spiritual discovery and musical experimentation with soul-mates like Michel Petrucciani and Bobby McFerrin have honed his sometimes stark, sometimes ecstatic, always original sound and musical sensibilities. Llyod’s unerring knack for choosing adrenalizing young band-mates invariably ensures an inspiring concert experience, and this program features a lineup you won’t hear anyplace else....
