Other Minds Festival 25 – subtitled “Moment’s Notice,” after the John Coltrane tune – is back on the calendar! Originally scheduled for April, 2020 but delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Festival is now scheduled for October 14-17, 2021, at the Atrium Theater, 401 Van Ness Avenue in San Francisco, on the fourth floor of the same building that houses the Herbst Theater.
We are currently planning on producing these concerts in front of a live audience. However, the health of our artists, staff and audience members remains our highest priority, and we will follow the guidance of the CDC and our local, state and federal government health officials. Updates will be posted to this web page, and to our social media, about any restrictions and how they may affect our plans for this production.

Other Minds is also working on a plan to live-stream this event. We view this as an exciting opportunity to make these “instant compositions” available to audiences around the world as they happen. Again, we will post updates on all our news outlets as the situation solidifies.
Other Minds continues its dedication to shining a light on contemporary and experimental music with this Festival. It will be four nights honoring the art of improvisation, presenting an astonishing array of performers whose artistry manifests consistent innovation and experimentation. We are privileged to present some of the greatest practitioners of improvised music from the latter 20th century – Anthony Braxton, Roscoe Mitchell, and William Parker. And we’ll feature some exciting younger artists like Tyshawn Sorey, King Britt, Myra Melford, Mary Halvorson, Jen Shyu, Zeena Parkins, and Darius Jones, whose work demonstrates a lively interaction between avant-garde jazz and classical music…and other genres as well.
