Impresario, educator and promoter Paula Phillips is the owner of The Phillips Agency, a public relations firm representing non-profit organizations and businesses associated with arts and culture such as galleries, museums, performance venues and festivals. The agency also represents individual performing and recording artists and record labels. Team members are located in the Baltimore- Washington-Annapolis triangle and in Montreal, Quebec.

The creation of Jazz Beyond Borders, a presenting organization and artist-booking agency, was a natural development after three decades of service to the arts. Venue hosts, event planners and educators need help connecting to world-class artist/educators and vice versa. The PR company established a sister agency to meet those needs.

Phillips is the cofounder and former administrative director of Maryland Summer Jazz, a festival of workshops, jams and concerts. For 12 years, she was the powerhouse behind the scenes. She set high standards for curriculum and faculty and nurtured young talent by instituting scholarship and intern programs.

She was also the program director for another adult jazz education program called inDepth Jazz Clinics. For both she brought in Brazilian, Latin and other world jazz artists and hired dynamic women jazz artists. She greatly increased the number of women onstage and in the classrooms. For both programs she developed innovative workshop themes and planned and promoted related concerts. These experiences inspired her to expand her work with world artists who tired of rigid boundaries.

Earlier in her career, Phillips received national awards for developing county arts programs before leaving to work on television and radio programs and as a feature writer. The breadth and depth of her experience is valuable asset to the PR firm and booking agency and to clients and staff.
