Cambridge, MA – EL ECO, one of the pioneers of Latin jazz in Boston, will present an evening of Brazilian Argentinian jazz at Ryles Jazz Club in Cambridge on Friday October 13 at 9:00 pm.
The show will feature Italian saxophonist Marco Pignataro, Brazilian pianist Helio Alves, Argentinean bassist Fernando Huergo, and Argentinean drummer and band leader Guillermo Nojechowicz. Currently touring with Brazilian vocalist Joyce Moreno, Helio has performed with Joe Henderson and Yo-Yo Ma. Fernando, a very versatile bass player, has performed with Marta Gomez and Dave Liebman. Marco has performed with Eddie Gomez and George Garzone and is the Managing Director of the Berklee Global Jazz Institute in Boston.
EL ECO leader Guillermo Nojechowicz, who has played with Claudio Roditi, Luciana Souza, and Donny McCaslin, is also an international clinician and educator. He performed with his student World Jazz Ensemble and guest Joshua Redman at Cambridge Rindge and Latin School through a collaborative program with Harvard University. He has also taken his students to perform at the Panama Jazz Festival, where they got to listen to some of today’s greatest jazz musicians up-close, including Danilo Perez, Chucho Valdes and John Scofield.
Guillermo's music has been featured on NPR’s Jazz Set. Guest performers with EL ECO have included many renowned musicians, including Airto Moreira, the master Brazilian drummer who played with jazz legend Miles Davis. EL ECO festival performances have included Telluride Jazz Celebration, where the line-up featured Herbie Hancock and Terence Blanchard, Curaçao Jazz Festival, the Freihofer Festival in Saratoga Springs, and the Buenos Aires Jazz Festival in Argentina.
In addition to the quartet of musicians performing at Ryles on October 13, EL ECO's soon-to-be-released new CD, Puerto de Buenos Aires 1933 will feature vocalist Kim Nazarian who performs widely with the band and is founding member of New York Voices, and 2017 Grammy-nominated jazz trumpeter Brian Lynch.
