The Copenhagen-based, Scottish-born composer Clarissa Connelly’s music is evocative of the whimsical and almost child-like, tainted by an undercurrent of dark sensuality, disquietude and existential dread. Characterized by complex arrangements, big compounded chords, as well as a broad array of instruments, effects and sounds, her songs orient the listener towards utopian beauty that lies somewhere between the baroque and the primordial. With an experimental approach to vocal techniques, her voice can manifest benevolent fay-like creatures as easily as banshees and maleficent spirits singing melodies that retain the accessibility typically associated with pop-music. With forthcoming album The Voyager, Connelly sets out to not only to study the relationship between nature and music, but also its relationship with time. It is here that The Voyager derives so much of its power. It roots itself in history, mythology, capable of intertwining and unravelling both past and present. The Voyager is released in conjunction with an app Vandringen (released 27 september 2020), conceived and created by Clarissa Connelly – along with the contributions of 21 other Danish musicians, painters, sculptures, performers – which highlights special ancient Danish locations, not viewable on Google Maps.
In February 2021, Clarissa Connelly will play a double concert at ALICE, bringing her new album. The concert is a part of Vinterjazz 2021.

Skotsk-fødte Clarissa Connelly forbinder det oprindelige med det nutidige i sin musik, der får eksperimenterende elektroniske understrømme, drømmepop og keltiske traditioner til at gå op i en højere enhed. Hun er netop aktuel med sit nye, fremragende album “The Voyager” og til Vinterjazz gæster hun ALICE til dobbeltkoncert.

Clarissa Connelly er en skotsk-født København-baseret sangerinde og komponist, der kombinerer eksperimenterende elektronisk musik og drømmepop med keltiske undertoner. Hendes musik har noget næsten barnligt, varmt og lunefuldt over sig, men emmer samtidig af mørk sensualitet, uro og eksistentiel frygt. Connelly er kendt for sin brug af komplekse arrangementer, storladne akkorder og en fyldig og eklektisk instrumentering, der drager lytteren mod stemninger af barok æstetik og oprindelig skønhed. Kompositionerne eksisterer altid på grænsen mellem det hverdagsagtige og det overnaturlige og har lyriske og musikalske rødder i keltisk folklore – noget som høres tydeligt i Connellys eksperimenterende vokalteknik.
Clarissa Connelly udgav i 2018 debutalbummet “Tech Duinn” (Brystet Label), og spillede samme år på bl.a. Roskilde Festival i imponerende opsætning med 10 musikere på scenen. Connelly er nu aktuel med sit andet album “The Voyager”, som kredser om forholdet mellem musik, natur og historisk tid. Med sin fascination for hedensk kultur, er historie og mytologi albummets helt store temaer. “The Voyager” udkom sammen med app’en Vandringen, som Connelly har udviklet med bidrag fra 21 danske kunstnere, som med bl.a. musik, poesi og maleri har fortolket hver et særligt dansk historisk område, som man ikke kan søge sig frem til på Google Maps.

Om Vinterjazz:
Vinterjazz er en landsdækkende musikfestival, som har eksisteret siden 2001 og foregår hvert år i februar. Festivalen strækker sig over tre uger og rummer omkring 600 koncerter fordelt på flere end 125 spillesteder og arrangører fra Aalborg til Rønne. Vinterjazz 2021 finder sted fra 5-28. februar.
