A native of Kurgan in the south of Urals, Anton Gorbunov is a classically trained musician with a wealth of professional musical knowledge and expertise. Never stopping to climb the pinnacles of musical craftsmanship, the now globally acclaimed electric and double bass player has performed with quite a few prominent figures from various musical genres. A philharmonic orchestra, pop singer Valery Syutkin, an opera house orchestra, jazz band Doctor Faust, jazz guitarist Igor Boiko, trumpetist Anatoly Gerasimov, world music group Marimba Plus, rock star Vladimir Kuzmin, funk and soul band Sound Cake, multi-instrumentalist Arkady Shilkloper – the list can go on and on. And so can the list of festivals played by Anton Gorbonov, from most famous Usadba Jazz and Buzz Day in Russia to Jazz Globus in Jerusalem and the European BassDay, where Anton performed his own material.
Anton’s versatile career includes a few more milestones, among them an invitation from composer Eduard Artemiev to take part in the recording of Raskolnikov,
a rock opera based on a book by Fyodor Dostoevsky, performances with Bossa Nova king João Donato, six-time Grammy Award winner David Sanborn and other high-profile jazz artists – Mike Stern, Eric Marienthal, Dave Koz, Phil Perry, Bobby Harden, Ty Stevenson, Ernesto Simpson. Another collaboration that most certainly deserves a mention and is considered as one of the most notable in today’s Russian music industry is Kle2Go Trio founded by Anton together with folk musician Sergey Klevensky and vibraphonist Vladimir Goloukhov, both top league performers.
During his professional career Anton has recorded 5 albums, all released by ArtBeat Music: Bass Magic (featuring the fabulous voice of Richard Bona, Fixed Idea, Anton Gorbunov & Fiends Live at Alexey Kozlov Club» (CD+DVD), Going Forward, 04:04 and The Sun and The Moon with his band Day of Creativity.
Today Anton regularly performs with his Anton Gorbunov Group and whilst the band’s line-up may vary from a quartet to a septet, they never fail to showcase their breathtaking melodies, rich harmonies and utmost musicianship. The Group’s permanent line-up includes Anton Gorbunov on electric and double bass, Peter Ivshin on drums, Manuk Gazaryan on keyboards, Leonid Birzovich on electric guitar, Anton Zaletaev on saxophones and flute, Vladimir Goloukhov on electric vibraphone and Vartan Babayan on percussion.
