Acclaimed acoustic fingerstyle guitarists Eric Skye, Adam Miller and Teja Gerken are teaming up for an eclectic evening of solo and ensemble playing. With each player known for their original approach to the instrument, this will be an evening that no fan of virtuoso guitar music can afford to miss, and in the case of Skye and Miller, a rare chance to hear them in the San Francisco Bay Area.
A Bay Area native who is now based in Portland, Oregon, Eric Skye is most often billed as a jazz guitarist, but he actually occupies a unique niche, exploring areas between Americana, jazz, and blues, all threaded together with a healthy respect for groove and unadulterated acoustic tone. Skye’s 2012 release, A Different Kind Of Blue —a solo guitar re-imagining of Miles Davis’ iconic Kind Of Blue—was acknowledged by the Davis family and named in Acoustic Guitar magazine’s Top Ten Albums of the Year. In 2015, he released two duet recordings, June Apple, a duet effort of early American fiddle tunes with mandolinist Tim Connell, and Artifact, with guitarist Mark Goldenberg. Hailing from Australia, Adam Miller is a one-man groove machine. Playing originals as well as pop and jazz standards, Miller’s complex fingerstyle technique recalls players such as Charlie Hunter and Tuck Andress. He has been featured in North American magazines including Acoustic Guitar, Guitar Player, and Premier Guitar, and his relentless touring schedule has included shows in the USA, Canada, UK, Germany, France, Italy, Poland, Japan, and his native Australia, where he performed in support of Tommy Emmanuel. Miller’s latest album is 2018’s The Defining of Success.
Teja Gerken is no stranger to fans of contemporary fingerstyle guitar. Weaving together influences of folk, jazz, classical and world music, he is known for his original compositions, many of which employ alternate tunings, two-handed tapping, percussive effects, and other extended guitar techniques. Gerken’s two albums, On My Way and Postcards, have received widespread acclaim, and he has shared the stage with many guitar legends, including Alex de Grassi, John Renbourn, and Andy McKee.
